I probably don't have enough readers for this to be enlightening...

Hello, World.

I just want to know—what books would you recommend for someone who is traveling to Slovenia, Kraków, Sevilla, Córdoba, Madrid, Toledo, Barcelona, Avignon (and all around Provence), Marseille, and Nice (and all along the Riviera)?

They could just be good books. Or books about one of these places. Or travel books in general. Basically I just want to read! At this point, I'll be looking out for titles in used book stores, because I won't have time in the next 24 hours to hunt down English books. Although Munich has a large bookstore, and I'll be there first.

I like fantasy, I like historical fiction, I like contemporary fiction. I like classics, I like trashy novels/chick lit (what an awful term), I like sci-fi. I like animals. I like young adult books. I even like Gossip Girl (the books).

Help!

If you haven't already, I suggest reading The Moveable Feast!

1. Isn't that in Paris?
2. I read it freshman year after you had gone home for Christmas but I still had to study for physics for a week by myself. The same time I read like a year's worth of City Wendy's blog. That was when I found it, actually.
3. It was good!

I'll have to think about it more, but Carl Cohen would recommend A Time of Gifts.

Walter Abish is good. (In English or the original German --Abbish may have two b's) Housekeeping by Robinson and Death in Venice seem appropriate for temporarily unmoored travelers. ts

I really like (I haven't finished it yet) the last book we had to read for our Kinder und Jugendliteratur class - Die Mitte der Welt by Andreas Steinhoefel. It's very long and in German but when I was reading it actively (I've taken a break because I'm lazy) it went really fast. I'm sure Maraia has a copy if you wanted to borrow it.

This is much too late, but A Room With a View!!! That's what I read when traveling to New Jersey, though it would make a hell of a lot more sense if you were going to Italy. Where Angels Fear to Tread was about Italy too, but it wasn't happy or as good.
